Anyone have any knowledge of these roof tents?
Gday,

I'm looking at one of these on ebay and wondering if anyone has any views to share on them? Better than Hannibal as it claims etc? I'm going to get some racks as well - unsure of which ones yet. Going to mount on 2010 110.

Cheers

Hi Hamish

If it was me,, I would pay the extra and go for a leading brand, unless these are well know in NZ,, ?? somehow i doubt it,
Sure there must be a local supplier, as shipping will be a small fortune

Any saving now, will be more than lost when you come to sell

PS, Hope your having a good summer California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

It doesn't say who these are made by. Does anyone know?
I agree that you need to see the manufacturers details etc if you are to move away from one of the big names. for the resale value if anything.

I have the Howling Moon Stargazer and think it is brilliant. I wouldn't quibble about whether the canvas is 200 or 300 tbh, once inside our HM with the windows up it is very dark, draught free and waterproof.

Heavier canvas will weigh more, which could be a disadvantage.

But really it is not just about canvas it is about which model suits you best. Some people will be fine buying a cheaper one with lightweight materials, but others will want something more robust. That will depend on how you want to use the tent.

We went for a 'tourer' type which has the ladder coming down inside the annexe. The annexe is a very good size for chairs, tables, boxes, etc. and it if you want a bit more space you can fold the ladder up. The annexe also has a full heavy duty zip-in groundsheet. With HM, you can get the annexe made to order to suit the height of your vehicle.

Having looked at a lot of different ones at a very very wet Billing in 2011, we decided on the HM, due to model design, quality of canvas, etc. It was the best for us, but certainly not the cheapest. But then we are planning to live it in for 4 months rather than a couple of weeks at a time, here and there!

Bit is a big purchase and as I say, it isn't just about what the manufacturer or sales people say - it is down to what suits your requirements the best. Our blog - http://landytravels.com/
