On my 90 td5 (06 model) one of the service printouts mentions battery top up so must be non sealed?

Ah okay - well I went to an independent specialist for the 4th service so I'm hoping they did the battery top up as well as per the schedule.

The mechanic should have filled in a check/ tick list as he did your service along with any notes/advisory comments which should be brought to your attention. When paying your bill they should have gone through the list of schedule and non schedule works carried out.
If you have any doubts might be an idea to ask if you can look at the check list, without actually telling them what you are concerned about. It is easier at the smaller garages to get a good working relationship with the mechanics and stores manager. It is amazing what you can learn/ obtain if you can achieve this. Brendan |

Isn't the venting tube coming out of the standard battery also a clue it's not sealed, or do sealed batteries also have this? AGMs don't have one, so I sealed up the big hole in the bottom of my battery box... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I would say your be bloody lucky to find a main dealer or any garage that would check battery water as part of general service weather its written on sheet or not.
some makes are nearly impossible to get top off without cracking of breaking it (ok if got screw caps on each cell ) easy way is check the caps normally you cant undo them without marking them. we used to test battery electronically ( and level sometimes ) depended what the condition of battery looked like ,or if there was a comment made about battery/starting etc Last edited by munch90 on 5th Jan 2014 11:03am. Just remembered - at my last A2 service, the German dealer wanted me to pay 15 Euros for them to charge the battery as it was "a bit low" (I hadn't used it for a few weeks) - you can imagine what I told him... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
