Dual Battery - Split charge system
Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has any views or installed a dual battery system in a defender.

I know it has been done many times - and doing a search I find info ranging from DIY solutions to pretty expensive kits.

Since this is the forum I use I was looking for input here.

many thanks for any input

I went to Devon 4x4 and had the Genisis system fitted, they did the work and made it very worthwhile letting them do the work by discounting the parts. They did a great job and the system works very well, giving battery voltage of both batteries on an LCD display.
In my 90 I did a self fit of the Luna system which also works well but I dont really like the display of battery condition, being a strip of leds going from green though orange to red.
Hope this is of some interest. Thumbs Up Whats broken now ?

If you go to my gallery theres a picture of the twin battery instalation. The picture is taken from the drivers side and the batteries are pulled towards the drivers side to access the negitive connectors. When the batteries are pushed into the tray the connectors are under the seat rail and basically in accessible. Hope this helps.

Just found out how to post a picture Thumbs Up Whats broken now ?

Hiya RD,

i'm just wiring my twin battery conversion. using two odyessy pc1500's into a devon 4x4 tray.
vehicle is a 57 puma
i'm wondering how you wired the main feed from the alternator to the main (starter) battery. did you use the fuse block with the 500A fuse in the plastic block, from the original OEM battery. or did you dispense with it? or wire it via a fuse from another manufactuer? the stock fuse doesn't seem to fit from the pos+ post and hang over the side of the new battery Confused
can you enlighten me..........confused.com Very Happy
cheers al.

I used the fused connector as origional. Take the plastic cover off and bring the cable in from the other side otherwise it wont fit. Whats broken now ?

RD..........cool
that's the wonder of interweb forums, solutions to my problems Very Happy
yeah hang that OME fuse way over the other side, just fits.
so good if fact that i've ordered another from dealer, to mount on the second battery.
going to run a smaller 'mega' fuse in that carriage, on the feed-out from the solinoid.
the OME pos+ clamp also has the benifit of the two mounts for the secondary supplies.
cheers, will post a pic of mine when completed.
cheers al.

Ok folks, those that have done it..........what's the best/neatest way to run a dual battery monitor lead (in my case a national luna) from the battery box to the dash.

i can consider drilling a hole in the battery box wall to get the lead under the carpet...........not my prefered option.
or going out of an original grommet and somehow coming up through the engine bay, back through the dash.
i've seen a cable exit out through a small hole drilled in a blank switch, i thought that was neat.

any suggestions would be appriciated Smile
