OBDLink LX with Torque Pro
So, finally I've installed the OBDLink LX and got it all up and running. This is only applicable to Pumas as I don't believe any other Defender is OBD2 compliant.

As you may know, the OBDLink LX is a cheaper version of the awesome OBDLink MX. Cheaper doesn't mean it's anything less of awesome, it just means that the sender doesn't do some of the Ford and GM custom OBD2 protocols that we don't require.

I repositioned my OBD2 port to allow the sender to be attached permanently (yes, good news is it runs power management so goes into standby when not required.)

Next was to configure the Torque Pro app how I wanted it. Probably mess around further once I've had a few goes but it's very customisable with it's gauges and themes (you'll see from the video that I've even got a photo of my Defender as the wallpaper). You can also design your own gauges if you're any good at graphic design.

So is it any good? So far, yes it's great, not really used it much, but all the gauges I have running seem to operate in real-time.

There's plenty of PIDs being accessed to add a lot of gauges.

So to re-cap, here's what I'm running;

Samsung Galaxy S4 running the following software;

CarHome Ultra - This is a touch screen dashboard for your phone, been using this for ages, great!
GoneMAD Music Player - I stream music to my Sony Headunit via Bluetooth.
Torque Pro - Manipulates and displays the OBD2 data

The phone sits in a Brodit 2 amp active charger and cradle

OBDLink LX Bluetooth sender is plugged into the OBD2 port.

Great thing is, the Torque Pro software is only £2.95 from Google Play (http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...&hl=en), there is a free version but it's not as powerful, the OBDLink LX sender is only £72. I got mine from http://www.Scantool-direct.co.uk (albeit via their eBay shop).

There are el-cheapo Bluetooth OBD2 senders around for little money, I have one that's great for reading/clearing fault codes, but the PID per second is a lot slower making the gauges a bit laggy. They can also throw up some errors in the readings.

Torque Pro has loads of other features that I'm yet to look at. It does acceleration monitoring, 0-60 times etc. and can also calculate bhp and torque (I doubt it's very accurate at that though).

The other great thing is I can stream audio and OBD2 data simultaneously via Bluetooth.

Here's a quick video I've done to show it.

- The black box that appears when CarHome Ultra is on is because it's showing my current location which is my home address.

In case anyone is wondering, I don't have anything to do with either Torque Pro, Scantool-direct or the makers of OBDLink stuff. I'm just a gadget freak! Laughing Craig Rogers

+1 for the quality of the OBDLink kit - have an SX (USB), which is far faster than anything else I've tried... 2013 Defender 110 XS DCPU

The receiver is indeed Bluetooth. This is the reason it doesn't work with iPhones/iPads due to the sour Apple Flavoured protocol.

The cradle connection is just a 2amp charge, although I believe you can get a cable splitter which allows accessories to use the USB data, I'm not sure if you can get a USB OBD2 reader connected this way though.

As for TD5, I'm pretty sure it won't work as a TD5 is not OBD2 compliant. Same reason a Scangauge won't work. Craig Rogers

I didnt appriciate that it was Bluetooth connected. I thought it would be cable. Thats a bonus then means I can plum the cradle in then connect to thr OBD2 with Bluetooth. this is certainly going in the wish list

So far, so good.

Used for the first time today, I took it to work to give him a drive (not been driven for about 6 weeks properly).

All the gauges are instant and giving good results.

The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is the MPG displays. My run is an 11 mile drive through country lanes and roads. A few steep ups and downs and also some 60mph roads.

Averaged at around 16mpg, so think it might be under-calculating. Of course, this time of the year, it might not be too far from the truth on a short run like that. I might have to do a manual calculation. Craig Rogers

Just order my OBDLink LX, can't wait.....

I'm going to use it on a Samsung tab 3.0 8"

I bought a Brodit mount after seeing the one in your vid and I am well impressed. It is perfect for my satnav needs with co-pilot software being on offer over Xmas.

I also run Anquet maps for full os mapping on a 64gb sd card
