This one looks quite good : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281115069813

Anyone any experience of them ?

It seems to have been mounted a bit skew-whiff - but it says it galvanised and bushes have grease nipples - and it's a decent price ..?

I nearly bought this one but I'm pleased I bought the Safari Equip one instead.

The Masai wheel carrier is made in Turkey. Looking at the photographs they are showing two different types. Compare the door plate on the orange door reinforced with chequer plate with the blue vehicle.

The mounts for the Masai wheel carrier are rather short compared to the Safari Equip one and there does not appear to be a reinforcing plate for the top mount which the Safari one comes with.

Safari Equip do 9 different options of wheel carriers with 3 options on finish and price varies between £174 and £426.

If you want real high quality and a wheel which remains in the exact original position, the Australian Kaymar is your friend. No holes to be drilled in the rear at all, entirely supported by bolting onto the chassis without drilling. Thumbs Up

Does the Kaymar open with the door, or must it be opened first? There may be issues if the door cannot be opened from inside if an SW.

Kaymar in essence looks very similar to the Sonic3d/Allisport carrier.

Kaymar does not open with the door. First you open Kaymar, then the door. I do not find it inconvenient, because I never have passengers on the 3rd row. The good thing about this is that you can open the wheel carrier for easy washing the rear of the truck. Some may not like this two staged opening though. As to quality of the Kaymar, I can assure you it is strong enough to support a rhino plus a fully grown elephant. Whistle As to legality of the system, no problem, my truck which is a 7 seater sailed through the Swiss MOT with flying colours. Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. Single Pivot wheel carriers

The Kaymar wheel carrier has to be released first, swung open and then the rear door open. Not readily available in the UK and is about £800. Possible supplier would be Outback Import in France.

Alisport/Sonic wheel carrier not readily available in the UK and is about £600-700 when available

Safari Equip and Nakatanenga single point wheel carrier are readily available at about £425 in the UK.

I understand that there is a new version of a single point wheel carrier available shortly.

Standard Wheel Carriers

Various manufacturers make 'standard' wheel carriers. These will normally involve drilling the body work at 'waist' level. Rear door may or may not require drilling as well.

Main UK manufacturers include Mantec at £240 and Safari Equip who make the widest range of wheel carriers available with prices starting from about £176.

Imported ones would include Masai, not sure if Rasta does one for a Defender.

I am sure there are other makes I have not mentioned Embarassed
