LT 77 Transmission Turret Wear
Hi all.

My gearbox has been tough to get into 3rd. I removed the boot to adjust the spring stops. I found a bunch of aluminum dust covering the top of the trans. It looks like the steel pins have worn the slots that are cast into the shifter turret. The slots are no longer "slot shaped", but rather irregular. This has created a path that allows the shifter to effectively twist in place. The result is a shifter that doesn't return to the center after 2nd gear and thus 3rd is tough to find.

Is this normal and or typical? The unit is twenty odd years old with 145,000 miles under its belt.

I'd have thought that was a reasonable mileage to start needing replacement. Get on the blower to Ashcrofts and see what Dave says.

Walfy has a more or less complete LT77 for sale (look in the for sale section, someone has a "wanted: LT77") yo might be able to get buy bits off of it, or the complete thing.

I called Ashcroft. They are sending me a used but serviceable unit for a reasonable price. Ill let ya know how it goes.
