Side Facing Seats
Hi All

Moving up to a defender potentially and I have the need for 4 seats but also with a good wodge of storage space for kit.

I have two options really.

1) Save up for a 110 and make it into a utility spec

2) Get a van back 90 with side facing rear seats, and remove the two forward ones to replace with storage.

My question is, if I went for option 2, is there any way of upgrading the seats to something a little more comfy? I wouldn't neccesarily need them to fold up, if I could make them not require an additional support to go down to the floor.

any thoughts appreciated.

Technically all seats should be forward facing and fitted with 3 point belts in all cars built after 07 so all puma defenders hence why the centre front seat was deleted from the factory. So if you want side seats you are looking for a td5 at the newest. If you need the seating and the storage then you really need a 110. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

You have also the implications of the conversion and whether you and your passengers would be covered in the event of accident and/or injury perhaps? Buy a vehicle fit for purpose would be my advice.

There really is very little room in a 90 full stop.

2 seats forward or side facing wouldn't leave much room for storage.

Apart from the insurance implications of removing forward facing seat the wheel arches are modified and would not take standard side facing one without modification.

I have side facing seats in my 90 but never use them and frankly they may as well never be there. So there is 6 seats total but you wouldn't want to use them, they're only okay for a very short trip and with 4 people would be extremely cramped.
If you really do need more seats I think a 110 is pretty much your only option to get decent seats for the amount of passengers you want to carry.
Forward facing seats I've never been in but they will be high and I wouldn't say very pleasant to travel in either. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
