We places we have found have all been by accident. When we travel we have an idea of where we want to get to by the end of the day but sometimes for one reason or another we get delayed and realise that we are not going to make it to the planned campsite. There are loads of places where you can wild camp as long as it's

a) not in the national park / private land ( usually signed private)
b) not close to any kind of habitation
c) you are well off the track / road

Then also make sure that you arrive late and leave early before anyone else is likely to be passing.

For us it's part of the adventure that your not quite sure where you will be staying each night

A couple of useful apps are "you camp es" and " you camp for" which show your present position and campsites nearby as pin icons on the map. Clicking on the. Gives you full info on each one.

Hi guys, Ferry booked for Sunday. I have the vibrication book for the trip. How easy are they to follow in reality? I have the odometer on the speedo to use and could easily run a gps as well. I dont really want to plug the whole route into the gps manually before I go so was hoping that the roadbook will suffice once we start the route. We havwe not booked any camping so are hoping to just rock up and camp. We only have a tiny 2 man tent (hilliberg) so places can normally fit us in.

Any last minute tips? Is the smugglers road a worthy addition to the road book trip?

Also...

As far as safety/recovery goes I have:

Tyre fixing kit, 12v compressor for airing up tyres, quick deflator, x2 waffle boards, recovery bridle (will hopefully pick up a tow rope before I leave), x2 triangles, a medium sized foam extinguisher and a CB radio. I plan to take spare oil, air and fuel filters, a socket set and adjustable spanner, the standard hi lift jack and a couple of decent torches.

Have I overlooked anything? Should I pick up a couple of britpart axles just incase? Maybe a wheel bearing kit?

I'd be inclined to leave the waffles, the filters and hi-lift at home, you won't need them IME.
Do a good thorough service yourself before you go.
If you want to carry spares, then a couple of wheel bearings and a Propshaft UJ, a tube of instant gasket, a hub nut socket and prop nut socket.

... and it really is worth plugging in all the coordinates before you go. Particularly if you don't want the person in the passenger seat to hate you 😊

Stunning scenery, beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers and canyons and we haven't even strayed from the main road yet. Although that might be that we didn't follow Mo's advice and enter my planned off road bits. Only on day 3 and loving it. Definitely off into the mountains proper tomorrow.

The Pyrenees are indeed beautiful, I'd go every year if there wasn't so many other places to go 😊

Nice pic!

No,we saw Esco, but preferred to find Ruesta on the other side. A deserted village (smaller), but it had a bar! And had a lovely Gazpacho.
