Mine has just been in for 'central locking' not operating on the OS rear door. Requires some new bits that are on back order. So it could be a common problem.

My 110 has just had a fault with the central locking that caused the battery to be run flat by one of the central locking actuators remaining live. I've yet to ascertain whether it was the same one (rear left) that has been less than reliable.

Snap. It was a broken wire between B pillar anddoor for me. |

My previous 90 TD5 used to regularly blow the alarm/immobiliser fuse until the dealer found a break in the passenger door wiring to the central locking. Defenders...where would we be without them?

Ours wouldn’t lock the rear door, which was not good for security !
I now check all the doors before I walk away from it as I did with my old landy – just in case! (kind of defeats the idea of central locking doesn’t it! ) What was more of an issue was that the alarm didn’t go off when the door was opened – the main dealer was very non-committal on that point as I asked if they were liable for the non-operation of security items on a vehicle under warranty if I was robbed…! Fixed now but still not sure if the alarm works properly … (better not test it tonight !) I had some 'fun' with my 110 today. I went for a photo-shoot this early morning
(clear skies and beautiful light). When I spotted a lovely landscape covered in soft orange light I parked the car at the side of the road. Because of the cold I decided to let the engine run, so I left the key in the contact. I went out of the car, closed the door and ... snap! The central door locking came into action and locked all doors. I live next to a bakery (luckily) so I could stop a guy on his way to buy his 'baguette' and he took me home to get the spare keys and then back to the car. Half an hour later I came back and found the 110, engine still running at the side of the road and all doors firmly locked. The camera bag was still inside (very low crime area). I think I'll have a talk with my dealer tomorrow morning. Hans http://www.orlaya.fr |

Good thing the bakery owner hasn't got a Defender and suffered the same indignity.. otherwise it would be 'Lock, Stock, and 2 smokin' baguettes'....

My O/S rear door won't lock either. The dealer ordered in and fitted new parts but the problem remains. They said it must be something electrical. They are thinking about it!
