After having 265/75 tyres on some steel wheels that put the tyre just on the limit of being covered by the arches, I got massively fed up with the amount of crud/mud that they threw up the side of the Defender.

I've since gone back to my Freestyle alloys and 255/85 tyres and the amount of crud/mud is much reduced.

Don't underestimate the sheer amount of sh!t that gets thrown up by wide wheels/tyres, even a short trip down the road makes the truck like you've been on a major off-road event..Wink

Just my 2c

cheers

can't exactly remember the kit but its a well worth mod for larger tires, saves the outriggers a bit too

Been meaning to put up a first post here for ages :L

So i will give some more information about the outrigger mudguards that likeomg posted as i know him, and have have just bought them myself without knowing he had them.

The originals are produced by gwyn lewis 4x4
Uou can get the uppers on their own that stop just below the bottom of your sill, or like likeomg, the longer ones which are two separate bits.

They are available on his ebay shop http://stores.ebay.co.uk/gwynlewis-4x4/Mud...9773008018

Wider tyres.
Hi, I changed my original (SVX) wheels and tyres for wider tyres on original LR saw tooth wheels. Now running 285 - 75- 16 no problem with clearance on full lock. Though I was told I would have to put in a lift. Look great and do help to make the 90 look a bit dirty but.... They're supposed to ! Will post some pics tomorrow. JP

My rims are 10" wide and I solved the mud up the sides problem by fitting these! No problem since Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hi guys. Interesting thread. Going back to the original question, what is the most purposeful looking tyres on boosts? I know, I'm sad, but I like my boost, don't really want spacers or muds, but something a bit more aggressive would look better I think.

Be careful, anything wider without spacers will reduce steering lock (tyres will rub on hockey sticks) which is now a MOT fail I believe.

285's on 0 offset 8 j alloys, good lock, looks well planted, tyres just legal - so much sh*t on sides of 110 its unbelievable - even with mudflap mods!!

Hey guys,

Just a quick question but I have been thinking of taking my Factory Goodyear MT tyres off my x tech and going for some 285s on my x tech rims, would this be ok or is the run too thin to really/safely take these? My current tyres have only done 12k and got loads of tred left but just not the look I want if you get what I mean, but if going bigger is not a good idea then won't do it Smile

Cheers

Stu

Are you just looking at wider tyres or changing the tyres completely? Just been looking at the goodyear mt for mine or dura tracs and wondering if there any good?
