2008 Defender 130 Puma 2.4 HCPU Rimini Red
very high Consumption on td4 Puma
HIGH CONSUMPTION ON TD4

I bought a 2nd Lr 130 in october2008. The first 5000km were fully exciting; then I noticed an increase of the consumption up to 18l/100km.

During the winter 2009, the EGR valve was changed by LR under warranty (cold start on 3 cylinder) but nothing changed for consumption still very high after 20000km : 16 - 18 l/100km at any sped betwenn 100 and 125 km/h

In october 2009 LR has upgraded the software on ECU and erased all error codes.

Consumption is still very high.

I have disconnected the battery and since consumption vary beetween 11 and 15 l/100km depending on ......chance ?....

There is no smoke at all when engine is warm.

There is a whyte blue smoke when starting in the morning. Only during 1 mn and then nothing...

Does any one have an idea of what is the problem ?

Sorry for my english, I m a southern frog living near by Montpellier

Welcome Southern Frog Thumbs Up

11-15 is quite possible at this time of year, I'm afraid. 18 is a bit high, though.

I get 11-13 on mine most of the time but it is definitely worse in these cold conditions. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

I get 10,5 without AC. About 1 l more with AC. Boldly going nowhere

Discovery 3 after a Defender 110 Crew Cab TD4 and a 1964 SIIA 88 Regular.

I get between 12.5 to 10 lt/100 km. In some ocatiosn and driving gently trying to have a constant speed of 90 kph, I got 9 l/100km.

Consumption depends , in my experience, of the speed and other things like A/C, transfer block, etc. Going up to 100 kph or more means a high increment in the consumption.

In our case 90 kph is the optimum (obviously its quite difficult to do than in a highway).

I will be worried if the consumption goes up to from 14 lt/km

Cheers Eduardo

When driving on the 'nationales' of the French country-side I get +/- 9.5l/100km
(110SW 2.4). On the autoroutes it is more like 12 13l/100km and up to 14 when
towing and heavy loaded. I'll get the ECU update next week in Brive and I'm
curious if it will have an effect on mpg. I have had some MIL and power
problems in the past, I hope they'll solve it this time. Hans
