Took mine before all this cpc nonsense so not sure if they have added to it.
It is mostly common sense but I found there was a few questions I didn't know the answer to when flicking through the book so it is well worth a glance over. Best of luck ![]() |

I did it a couple of years ago, its all just common sense. The only bit I remember needing to "know" was unmarked bridge heights. The rest of it, well, I was amazed how simple it was.
Q - which is the healthy food option? Pies A burger Fish and chips A salad. That was a question on my one, which shows about the level they work at. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

Theory test if failable, the driver cpc test consists of being hit over the back of the head with a brick,if your still standing you've passed
![]() Theoretically there could be a cross over between the two,so if you see someone approaching you with brick in hand, DON'T DUCK! ![]() |

What's the typical rate of pay per hour for the majority of these jobs? I've heard before that the money is not as good as what people can tend to think / not that great for the workload / responsibility. ____\We|Will|Win/___

Mines the same Ken (for operator), no idea why they don't call it something else!
Steve- Pay isn't really what people expect it to be! I'm not so sure about current rates on general haulage as I don't have any dealings with that. On the Fuels side, it's about £12 per hour ![]() "Land Rover- Proudly turning drivers into mechanics since 1948" ![]() |

HGV Pay? Hope you are sitting down.
7.5 ton can be minimum wage upto about £7.50 p/h depending on where you are. Class 2 £7.00 - £9.75 but the top stuff only if you are very lucky/prepared to work like a dog. Class 1 well, usually more than class 2 but some overlap. When I first got my class 2 I couldn't get class 2 work (most won't give you any such work until you have had the license for 2 years) so it was mainly van work and a bit of 7.5t until I could prove myself. Earnings where low enough to be worrying. LOADS of drivers out there being made redundant etc so lots of competition for jobs and no reason to expect wages to wise. As I can go and build powerlines for closer to £20 an hour, does anyone think i cam going to hang around driving? 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

Not easy to find decent, permanent work anymore, there is way to much agency work, reckon average for that is £8.50 for class 1 + zero hour contract, also more and more agencies (and blue (chocolate) chip companies)don't pay o/t rates.
Oh, and a lot of companies (a55holes in the office) don't take kindly to drivers having a life outside work,so expect to never see the wife and kids again, lol. |

Jimbob7 has written exactly what my experiences have been, and sums up why I am trying to get out. 2011 110 USW

Luckily its for my own work im getting it.
Theres a few companies around here that live off one contract with another company which is tied for 10-15 yrs, so they know that theyve the work. The sting is if i want to try and contract myself out im going to need an operators license which is pointless for the amount of work i could get. |
