so im going to get around to waxoyling my defender before the winter, so sometime soon hopefully!
and im going to sort some of the excellent looking mud dirt defenders to stop the annoying spray up the side, but; i want to know if theres anything i can fit to stop the rear x-member being filled with mud, dirt and salty water and stripping away the waxoyl and eventually the metal? its so depressing to see a freshly waxoyled & painted rear crossmember dripping with brown mucky water out of the holes in it... ive seen something like that for the front, to protect the outriggers? but is there a rear equivalent, or an easy mod i could make? im considering plasti dipping the under side of my car...
for anyone that hasn't heard of plasti dip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdCtzxkER7k would dry it out, give it a few washes without it moving leave it to dry over a few days with the heating on in the garage then just cover the underside in about 5-10 layers of this did my steering guard matte black a few weeks ago, came out great |

i purchased from plasti dip uk... its been on about 2 months no problems, cant say long run yet but with the winter predictions theres going to be a lot of salt about...

I've used this 3M product on my motorbike and it's really good.
http://www.venture-shield.co.uk/ I think they do a matt finish which would probably look best on a cross-member. You can buy it off the roll (as I did) and just cut it to size. Not cheap per sq.m. but it wouldn't cost much for what you're talking about. Wouldn't do internal protection but would keep the back clean. 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |

you could always adapt a front inner arch to fit the back that would do the trick 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

both of my mountain bikes are covered in that tape its also known as helicopter tape (or a very similar product is) theres a few knock off's some which yellow in sunlight, 3m doesnt... protects the frames / forks etc on uplift days and from stone chips
