Mud Defenders Fitted! do they work UPDATE
Got round to painting up and fitting the sets of front and rear mud defenders I picked up at Peterborough. (I got the smooth black for painting)

First attempt at plastic painting with a spray can and all went well, clean, plastic primer, lr paint and clear coat. Took most of the day on and off to finish the painting but the result was pretty good. Had a couple of 'moments' when it looked like I had put too much on at one time, but when dried looked Thumbs Up

Fitting was straightforward as well. I decided not to drill the wing initially and (after advice on here) used some of the tape for fitting trim/number plates. Just the right width and has stuck well, the tape also works as a bit of a gasket between the body and the mud defender (there is a bit of gasket supplied mind)

As the tape would stick firm on the first attempt I placed it on the mud defender first (masked off a strip when painting so it wasn't on new paint) I left an inch or so of the tape backing unattached so it was straightforward to position the mud defender correctly first , then just pull the backing tape out of the joint whilst holding into position. I put some fixings through the mud defender into the plastic wheel arch, but for now haven't bothered drilling the metal body. Looks like its going to stay put but I can at least drill and rivet later if it looks like the tape is giving up.

Looks quite tidy and the paint match is pretty good, so all that remains is to see if they stop the mud/spray up the sides after fitting spacers. Our lane gets a bit muddy when its wet which is annoying when you have just cleaned it! (yes I know its my fault for putting spacers on Laughing )

Any easy mod which hopefully will work!

Me neither, I phoned them a while ago and was told that rears 'might/would' be coming and lo and behold they turned up unannounced at Peterborough so had to buy (it is the rear that's more of a problem on mine)

Yes of sorts Thumbs Up designed for target shooters primarily, but I'm sure that some of my "buyers" use them for other types of 'shooting' , but I'm sworn to secrecy Shocked

Ideal for a spot of bunny bashing now its getting a bit damp underfoot.

I painted them with Plastidip when I did the wheels.

I fitted mine earlier (front only) this year and they definitely stop the spray up the sides. I drive a lot on gravel road and gone are the days with sides/soft top full of spray Smile 2009 Land Rover Defender 90 SVX Soft top 60th Anniversary Edition

That's good to know they work! I noticed a couple of stone chips underneath the rear wing when I fitted (touched up) so hopefully they will stop that a bit, as well as the muck and stones on anything I'm towing (tin tent got a bit grubby at the Midland Game Fair last weekend, as there was a nice muddy 'holding area' when I arrived)

Shame I can't fit any on the 90 as that always attracts a spray up the side as the modular wheels are a bit wider than usual, got rock sliders sills attached so probably won't work - something to check!)

So do they work? UPDATE
Yes is the short answer, after a drive round some farmyard tracks and lanes over the weekend in Wales I can say that they work well. No muck up the front and a a tiny bit catching the rear 1/4 instead of all up the side and in the fuel filler.

Note that this spray was not apparent until I fitted spacers, so if you are running standard wheels/tyres the land rover designed mud flaps cope well, but as there are a lot who change tyres/wheels/add spacers then these are a good item.

Also a huge reduction in spray and mess up the front of the caravan which was an added bonus, so a good easy modification (the painting was the longest bit) Painted up they look like an oem design. My adhesive tape fitting seems to be holding up well, so maybe no need to drill the metal part of the wing.

They appear to be pretty robust, at least as solid as the standard plastic wheel arch if not more.

I got mine from Mudstuff at Peterborough but there maybe other sellers (Brendan perhaps) as they are made by a uk manufacturer who aslo does wheel carrier etc.

Note there are two versions - one black textured and one smooth for painting (front and rear in both)
