Good evening forumites. My trusty stead has thrown a wobbley this morning...
Wiper motor is working but the wipers are not moving at all not even a twitch... Washer jets are working and trigger the motor to start but no wipers. Intermittent is the same. Noticed last week that the wipers were getting quite noisey lots of whirring gearlike noises. What is likely to be broken? Or do I take the opportunity to replace the cable, wheel boxes ect. Make it as good as it can be?!?! |

GeoBloke: Have a read through this, it may provide some help (pretty sure the wiper assembly for MY2002 is similar to the MY2001, just with the instrument cluster in a different place, if not then happy to be corrected).

I've just gone through doing mine on the TD5. Buy genuine parts is the lesson I learnt. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Ha thanks for the thread TR51 I had forgotten about that one, good write up. There are so many great threads on the web...
The method is the same for the replacement, but the change over point for alot of the parts is MY2002... from the wiper arms all the way back to the wiper motor... Have to love LR... Right I will get on with ordering the parts then. I have replaced a wheel box before on the 200tdi 90 and it was a pain in the behind and IIRC refitting the wheel boxes is one of those irritating 2 people jobs, inside and out...  |

Mine was for a 1999 td5, and was £103,xx p. with VAT

I think it was excossack's thread your thinking of. When I did mine (with genuine parts) I think it worked out at about £200 for the new motor with cable and the two wheel boxes (so everything but the wipers basically) It was well worth it as the difference in wiper performance was amazing! I hadn't noticed how bad the wipers were getting until one seized. |

My bill was for two x spindle boxes with splined ends that go on the outside and the wire cable that will need cutting back to the correct length.

Mk1 I am so looking forward to wipers that uhhhh, Wipe...  £200 would be a small price to pay for the genuine article and wipers that wipe the windscreen and only the windscreen... |

It's definitely one of the best jobs I've done on mine as I live in sunny (not) west Yorkshire right on top of the Pennines
