United Kingdom 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Alpine White
Am I some bolts short...
I presented my MY10 110 USW to the dealership this afternoon for paintwork issues on the rear door and the paint fading on the rear cross member.

The rear door is bleeding some slight rusty water reside at a kinda drain hole at the botton inside edge of the door, and the dealership are erring on the side of changing the door.

The rear cross member is also to be painted. However whilst studying this area, against another defender in the lot, I noticed that mine doesn't have some bolts fitted in the corners of the rear cross member. The MY13 truck (also a 110) had two bolts fitted at each corner of the beam. Am I missing out on something here?

The second picture down in the ace rear badge thread (my next purchase) shows also a cross member minus the bolts.

Anyone?

Was the other vehicle a 7 seater 110 ? If so then those extra bolts are for the seat belt mounting points of the rear folding seats in the 7 seater. Thumbs Up LANDYWATCH

United Kingdom 2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS DCPU Keswick Green
I was checking these bolts out at a Dealers recently as my MY13 DCPU didn't have them. I got distracted and never found out what their actual purpose was - only got so far as peering into the rear of the wheelarch and feeling up for the sustantial bracket before a Salesman appeared. Suffice to say he didn't have a clue what they were for and we started talking about other things.

Glad I now know!

Also interesting that LR have fitted a bracket to take the loading back to the chassis. I'm sure on earlier vehicles (edited to add I meant series vehicles) they were just mounted to the tub albeit with a load spreading plate below.

On earlier vehicles - definitely TD5 but probably tdi too, the seat belts are also mounted to brackets that connect to the chassis. Not the same brackets, as the seat arrangement is different, but bolted to the same place. Darren
