We took the Splugen Pass this summer (june/july) with a camper. The road and views are very spectacular! We did hardly see any car. Just a few houses and an almost abandoned village, lakes and cows.
The roads are very narrow on some parts and it will take you some steering to get over, but it is worth it. Even with a 7 metres long camper we did not have any problems getting up there. On top we where in the snow and our son (3 years) was amazed. 2021 Defender 110 D300 HSE |

We've viewed some Youtube footage of parts of the route, but it's good to hear of your first hand experiences.

Splugenpass is narrow but great, particularly when you're not stuck behind a camper
 in the low season. When you have the time also try the Grimsel and Furka (both near the Gotthard), or on the East side of lake Como the area aroud Zuoz and Davos. Stelvio is (IMHO) a crowded hype. |

I did it last week twice then back down the San Bernardino into Italy then over to Monaco.
I will did out pics, I may have a spare Swiss toll sticker to flog! |

Keep the vignette splitpin
My understanding is that it's valid for the life of the vehicle, so you might use it again '57 Defender 110 XS Station Wagon 2.4tdci |

Hope you enjoyed your trip.
It's easier for me, I live down the road. 
Drove over for lunch in Chiavenna and back the same day a couple of months ago - well recommend Chiavenna by the way, lovely town. Splügen has snow on it now. For those that travel E Switzerland, this site for my district Grisons http://www.strassen.gr.ch/sites/strassenzustand/karte.html is general bang up to date on passes open / closed and I believe For France: http://www.bison-fute.equipement.gouv.fr/d...?langue=en Good travelling! Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ... |

We really enjoyed our brief overnight stop in Basel.
The city was beautiful & everybody was so friendly + helpful. We even had a police escort to the hotel after getting lost on the home straight!! By the way, we can thoroughly recommend the Hotel Basel as somewhere to stay. Unfortunately, our light switch packed up on top of the Splugen Pass, and left us with only side lights, so the trip down into Italy through the numerous tunnels was interesting, and we only just made it into Bellagio before it got too dark!! I will post a dealership report on Motori Sondrio elsewhere!! Here are a couple of piccies taken on the Swiss side of the pass. We hope to visit Switzerland again in the near future.
