TD5 Alarm Indicator Flash
Hello!

First post on here (other than my introduction)

So I'm back to owning a defender after a 4 year hiatus and this one is slightly posher than my last one to say the least, electric windows! What will they think of next?

Anyways, I shall get to the point. I have as far as I'm aware the factory standard alarm and immobileser and the standard Lucas key fobs. When I lock or unlock him I dont get an indicator flash. The immobilser red light flashes correctly from what I can tell but I'm not sure if the alrm is working or not.

I have read in the manual that it may mean that a door or the bonnet is still open but I have checked and they are all 'firmly' shut, I have also read on this forum that the fob may need a new battery but that seems to be more for the Puma model?

So that is where I'am up to, no flashing indicators on lock or unlock, is this a fob battery issue or perhaps a faulty door switch? If it was a faulty door switch wouldnt I get the two horn warning from him?

Any answers greatly appreciated Smile

the 10AS alarm unit can be set not to flash the hazards, maybe it's been switched off? (you'll need diagnostic kit, nanocom etc, to turn it back on)

Thanks Jim, that definatley could be the case. Those Nanocom gizmo's sound like a really good idea in the long run, I think I might have to start saving pennies for them. The fact that the indicators arent flashing isnt exactly causing me grief, more of a query really.

Ive been out at lunch and bought a couple of batteries for the fobs just in case anyways as they could probably do with a change.

Thanks again. Michael was just telling me a story about a friend of his who slept with a land rover, lonely nights in the desert..

Try locking it with a window partly open.
Stick your hand through the window after 30 secs and see if the alarm sounds.

Thanks Laurie, I changed the battery last night just to be sure it wasnt that and I still dont get an indicator flash so I will pretend to be a thief tonight and stick my hand through the window once its locked and see if I get any horn action Shocked Michael was just telling me a story about a friend of his who slept with a land rover, lonely nights in the desert..

I'm pretty sure my alarm is perimetric only, rather than volumetric...

If the 'window' test fails to activate the alarm, try opening a door from the inside through the open window.

The 10AS provides both volumetric (interior movement) and perimetric (doors/bonnet switch) protection, and it is possible under certain circumstances to have the volumetric disabled whilst the perimetric is enabled. Normally this will happen in the event of a 'mislock' which would cause a beep, but the mislock beep can be disabled.

If you report back your findings, I'm sure that the panel will provide further diagnostic suggestions.

Right, an update!

As the land rover is at home and I'm at work I got the Mrs to carry out the 'window down, pretend to be a burglar' test. Here is the reply I got from her after carrying out said test "Yes the alarm works. S**t up Seb so much he is still crying" Big Cry

Seb is my son, I didnt know he would be involved in the test but he may now be scared of defenders for life! So it seems like the alrm is working fine.

Also I have had the mislock bleep a few days ago when I left a door open by mistake. So it sounds like perhaps someone has plugged a nanocom in and disabled the indicator flash? As far as I can tell from the replies that is the only possibility... Michael was just telling me a story about a friend of his who slept with a land rover, lonely nights in the desert..

Where are the sensors for Volumetric sensing? I've not noticed them....

In mine it sticks out like a sore thumb, just behind the driver seat on the roof lining. Well at least I assume that's what it is! Michael was just telling me a story about a friend of his who slept with a land rover, lonely nights in the desert..

kipper, that is a very interesting doc. I had no idea that you could do all that with the Defender alarm system, could end up saving me a lot of hassle one day Thumbs Up many thanks Thumbs Up Optimists say the glass is half full..
