EGR blank kit FAIL
Well my EGR blank kit for my Defender TD5 arrived 2 days ago so i set about spraying penetrating oil on the appropriate bolts and continued for the two days, today i set about installing the kit and the inevitable happened, both bolts snapped flush with the manifold even with applying ample heat to areas and only using a small allen key as to not apply to much pressure. The rest of the day was spent trying to get the manifold off with the same problems occurring so i've admitted defeat and getting her towed to Strathearn engineering tomorrow..... Big Cry

I don't think those two Allen bolts would ever come loose on a Defender over one month old Rolling with laughter

....I am really looking forward to fitting mine now.......

Someone who has fitted a few to Discovery 2s did advise me to spray with penetrating oil for a week or so (!) and then do the job carefully when the engine is warm and the manifold is therefore hot.

.......can't afford a disaster just now though!

Get the engine HOT, then tighten them slightly before attempting the undo, once cracked off, cup of tea, allow it all to cool before carrying on. That would be my advise.

You need to bombard it with penetrating oil and before you attempt it hit it with heat off a blow torch its more localised, i only tried this after on the turbo flange bolts and it worked a treat..

Try using loctite freeze spray, this temporarly shrinks the bolt. It helps.

no elbow grease at all, simply spray on G101 wait 10min and blast off with a semi powerful garden hose!
