Watch top gear tonight?
Makes you proud to be British, eh?!

Didn't realise we made so much! Maybe the daily fail should report that rather than telling us everything's crap. Cheers, David
Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8.

Yup, it was brilliant...brought a tear to my eye... Thumbs Up

Shame it was followed by a program about why people prefer German cars...I just turned that off.

Well done to Top Gear, proper program to be proud of.

Cheers

Simon

Missed it, but saw the program after Topgear explaining why you Brits love German cars. Whistle

Anyways, I won't be driving German cars as they don't have soul. I'll be driving my Indian Defender for the next ten years...

I don't read that right wing rag (or any others). But I believe you. Neutral

I've worn out a few soles in my driving (& biking) life due to British car breakdowns - including a Series 2, but my er..08 (is that Indian or American?) Puma not yet. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Watched both - Top Gear and "Das Auto: The Germans, Their Cars and Us"... both excellent. What really stood out for me was the comment in Das Auto that the UK doesn't value engineers/mechanics as the Germans do. They place them up there with Doctors, Lawyers etc.

How true that is and a comment my time served engineer Dad as always reiterated to me over the years.... Cheers,

I saw TG too, was a good episode.

I had two questions I was asking myself at the end...

1) how early did they have to get up to have all the vehicles lined up in the Mall... especially as there were very few spectators. must have been just daybreak.

2) crikey isn't that RRSport FAST!!!!! faster than the works (German... Whistle ) Mini. Laughing Laughing

It is not Indian, it is British.

Land Rover was born British, new ones are still made in Britain, and therefore it is still British, regardless of who collects the pennies from selling them.

Land Rover hasn't been owned by a British company since the BAE sell-off since 1994. That is nearly 20 years ago and in all that time people haven't stopped thinking of Land Rover as British, so why should that change? Even if they stop making new ones here it will take a very very long time for people to stop thinking of them as British, and quite rightly too. Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

Also, re. the new RRS - I like it more than the previous Disco based one.

But I agree entirely with Mr Clarkson re. the tailgate. I always said the RRS wasn't a proper Range Rover (and therefore I wouldn't have one) because you can't sit on the tailgate. I had hoped the new one would have the proper tailgate but alas no.

I'd rather have had a D4 than the old RRS, and I think I'd still rather have a proper Range Rover than the new RRS!

Personally, if not the Defender I'd only settle with the Disco. I like the square no nonsense shape of it.
