Spare wheel cover
I just received a stainless spare wheel cover from direct4x4 . I verified my tyre size as 235/85R16 .

The inner cover does not fit to the outside rim as shown in the pic? The diameter of the inside cover is 27 inch. Direct 4x4 say that this is the right part to fit the wheel and that I have to use straps to strap it to the tire. This doesnt make sense as there is at least an 1-2 inch of wheel exposed and not covered by the wheel cover.

What is the diameter of a size 235/85R16 tyre.

31.7 inches diameter

I've not had any experience with the type of cover you're talking about - I have the cheapo plastic one emblazened with my dealer's logo.

From the pic, I assume that the face plate doesn't cover the whole tyre but fits within the rim of the outer band. I assume the outer band is over sized and is contracted by the straps that you're supposed to fit. Sounds like a bit of a hassle to me, though. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

A 235/85 is 31.72 inches in diameter (806mm)

Easy to work out any size

Tyre width multiplied by aspect ratio divided by 100 = height of tyre in milimetres

Multiply by 2 (for two tyre walls) and convert into inches by dividing by 25.4 then add the diameter of the wheel.

So in this case: 235 x 85 / 100 = 199.75 x 2 = 399.5 / 25.4 = 15.72" + 16" = 31.72"

Even a 235/70 or a 205/80 is 29" in diameter, so no idea what a 27" would fit Question MAD COW

I was just about to hit the 'Buy' button on eBay but thought I'd search the forum first. Glad I did coz this Supplier's covers are mentioned, albeit a while ago and for the same size tyre.

Anyone know if they've improved the design/size to fit properly? Here's the link:-

I'd phone Supplier direct but I think the forum will give impartial feedback!

Thanks,
Paul
