not starting
Today the Puma failed to start. Turn the key and nothing-no sound just silence. Out and locked the vehicle , unlocked it tried it again and again nothing. Tried this again and it started first time. I think I have come across this as an occasional problem on various threads but is there a definite answer to it? It is not possible to go to the dealer until early in the new year, but am I right in saying anytime this problem has arisen no faults were logged? Puma is great just had this crop up today. Has been ok since the non start. Any thoughts? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Thanks for that. I had figured it was a coming and going type fault. So long as she starts I am not too bothered. Did not want the mrs stranded! The mrs drives the Puma and loves it.
Over here it is budget day and diesel is up from midnight. I am at the opposite end of the country to Cork.We went there for holidays one year in the 110 200tdi with out two children and three borrowed cousins! Left here at midnight and arrived about 9.00am. Kids all slept. Wonderful trip. Would love to do the same again in the Puma. One end of the country to the other and no motorways. Made me realise what a wonderful machine the 110 200tdi was for long trips. This year and last year it was the Puma for holidays. Good as the tdi is the Puma is in a different league altogether. I just pity all those deluded people in their Range Rover Sports. Very Happy Very Happy 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Agree totally about the people on the AULRO site. I do visit it. Remember the slagging I got when I mentioned that I found the heating controls on the Puma complicated (compared to the tdi and series 111) and that I had to read the instructions in the hand book? Or there was that other matter when I mentioned that one advantage of not having flaps on the Puma was that I did not catch my fingers on the hinge pins on the flaps when I waxed the 110. There's a technical bulletin on this. It comes with a flow chart of tests for the dealer (which I shouldn't post for security reasons).

If you talk to the dealer - they should recognise it and follow the instructions. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
+ New Defender 110 First Edition

I had it a year ago. Seems to be the the battery that didn't make contact. Just shuffeld the pole and back on the move.

Useful info, thank you. I will take this up with the dealer when I get a chance to go down in the new year. Is there a reference number on the alert to the dealer so I can ask for this test specifically?
It would be nice if it was as simple as the battery not making contact. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I'll try and look it up for you later - their site seems to be down at the moment. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
