Does a TD5 need an electronic speed indication?
I am making a 90 out off two 90's A 1984 and a 2003. On paper it will be a 1984 version but it will have most technical parts from the 2003 Td5. Why? No road tax.

I want to use the mechanical speed indication from the 1984 90 to keep the mileage in line with the recorded mileage. That means I have to take the electronic sensor from the transferbox and put the mechanical version in. Will I get problems doing this? In other words does the ECU needs a speed input?

Edited: I don't have ABS etc. Roel

I ran my Td5 converted 90 with the mechanical speedo for a time and the engine ran perfectly Mr. Green

One reason I changed to the electronics speedo is because the speedo unit electronically damps the fuel level signal before it goes to the fuel gauge.. cornering at speed caused the fuel gauge to go mad!

Thanks Martin,

I think I can live with that for a little more than a year. This way the 90 had 2 MOT's before I change the indicator back to electronic. Roel

Like in the UK there was a time when a car older as 25 years was road tax free but that stopped so a car in the UK has to be from before 1973 I believe. In the Netherlands we have the same and it will end soon: All cars that are 25 years old before 2012 will be and stay road tax free when they are 25 years old.
So a 1984 90 is road tax free a 2003 will never be road tax free.
And road tax for a 90 is approx 1650 Euro a year.

So that's lot's off diesel and toys each year Roel

Not quite as simple as that, there is a speed input into the filter Smile
