England 2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Zermatt Silver
Started the mods today
Apart from taking the bulkhead out and fitting mud rails after only one week (just so i could get in it) the Defender has stayed pretty standard until now.

Today removed the standard side steps and fitted some tree sliders

Then tried out my newly aquired wheels and tyres, second hand 285/75 R 16 BF Goodrich Mud Terrains on grey modulars. Sorry about the poor pictures, it was getting dark by the time I had finished)

Having second thoughts already about the tyres, look good but I think they are too wide. the picture shows me cross axle'ing the truck on a pair ramps to check the clearance. Front is fine and the extra offset on the modulars retains the steering lock but on the rear at full articulation, the tyres just kiss the edges of the wheel arch. Might have to change them for 265/75's?


Also extended the aerial wire on the remote central locking, brilliant! I can now lock/unlock from the other side of the street Very Happy

And for good measure, I bolted in the CB. Of course couldn't find anyway of fitting in/under/on the dash, so now lives on the back of the cubby box, and wired into a newly installed additional fuse box next to the original.

Off to play in Thetford Forest in the morning as I'm officiating at a Mountain bike race, so should get a good try out. MAD COW

Put a slight lift on it and you wont have problems, put 40mm OME 755s on the back on mine and plenty of clearance Thumbs Up You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

Don't intend to keep the muds on all the time as it is my daily driver, so the standard 235/85 Grabber TRs on Boosts will be on it most of the time. As a result I'm not keen to lift it.

I had intended getting some new 235/85 muds on modulars but bought these wheels because they were relatively local and a fair bit cheaper, so I'm unlikely to lose out if I sell them on. MAD COW

If they are only just touching on full articulation i would keep them as how often will you ever have full articulation Thumbs Up and the plastic arches are pretty flexible.

Thanks for all the advice (and pretty pictures) guys.

The one difference I can see is that you are using Land Rover wheels, the steel modulars have a bit more offset (about 20mm) and are 8 inch wide rims too.

Having said that, had a play on Sunday and did a nice bouncy green lane on the way home last night and nothing appears to have touched yet.

Maybe a little bit of a lift would be OK Mr. Green MAD COW

In that pic of mine it is running on 40mm spacers Thumbs Up

Just put H/D springs on, it will give you about a 1in lift NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY
