Salisbury axle
Hi guys, my 110 has the Salisbury axle, and it has quite a bit of back lash, does anyone no how to adjust this if at all, I'm hoping its the same as a conventional diff, your thought appreciated,

Not long now for Billing hope this weather holds out,

Mark

No, the salisbury isn't quite the same as a normal rover diff.

To adjust the backlash you need to remove the rear cover, unbolt the bearing caps, use a compressor frame thing to slightly squeeze the casing to release the diff unit. then shim it up, refit, measure, remove, re-adjust etc etc until the correct backlash is achieved.

quite a faff.

It's do-able at home; usually when the diff/casing gets worn, then the diff assy will come out with a couple of pry bars.

Obviously to refit it perfectly would need the use of a spreader or compressor, but a friend and I did my axle (when I fitted an ARB locker) with a huge G clamp he had.

To fit the locker it was in fact easier just to remove the whole axle, access was waaay better then.
