United Kingdom 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Stornoway Grey
I have both a 2.2 and a 300tdi with big intercooler and gas injection, for a 300 tdci it's quick, and I love it and will never sell it, but I have to admit my 2.2 is better in almost every respect. The rev hang is noticeable, but for me not an issue. I change the engine oil every 6000 miles, axles and gearbox annually. I can cruise at 80 and still converse normally, it's comfortable and the air con is great. It's not as easy to modify as earlier Defenders, but the quality of construction is in a different league to my first, which was a 200tdi in 1992. I loved that one, but the build quality was so crap I got rid of it at 18 months old with rotten doors, bulkhead, oil leaks from everywhere. I have read many disparaging comments on the 2.2, but I suspect that those owners never had the doubtful pleasure of an early Defender! It remains to be seen if the 2.2 engine will have the longevity of a 300 tdi, or the ease of maintenance and repair, all I can say is, after 20 -odd years of Defender ownership, the 2.2 is the best yet. Cool

It would appear that it wasn't a presumption but a comment based on their own experiences! Thumbs Up
