300 tdi oil change
Time for (my) first oil change on Mutley.
Got the oil from Asda(bargain) the filters from the show a couple of weeks ago. Any advice as to what type of filter wrench to get on the 300tdi- will be off to Machine Mart in a bit
Thanks
Thumbs Up

I've always liked the socket and strap type, machine mart code 040210245, it is a Clarke CHT245 Double drive oil filter wrench.

Regards,

Mark

If you're well endowed, then big hands will get the filter off.

Dont overtighten the new filter, that way you can undo them by hand next time. Rub a bit of clean oil onto the rubber seal of the new filter to stop it seizing on.

Oh, and buy yourself a difflock drain plug to replace your oil sump plug. Next time you change your oil just connect the hose to the drain plug and the valve opens causing the oil to run out of the hose and into a suitable container. Makes life so much easier and cleaner.

i tend to use the claw type that tighten onto the filter to grip it attached to a ratchet.

Thanks for the advice.
Ended up with a 'claw' type filter wrench that worked a treat.

Too late for the difflock sump plug but that looks great - managed to not make any mess draining the oil from the sump, but the drips from the filter gave the top of a axle a good rust proofing Wink

Did use a full roll of Kleenex stolen from the kitchen however.

Today's Jobs.......
Diesel filter
Air Filter
Drill the tub to attach the 'poppers' for the lower soft top fixings (finally get rid of the bungees holding it all together Embarassed )
Complete drilling (and paint) the windscreen header rail for the soft top fixings

and all hopefully before it starts pouring down Rolling Eyes

Not much you can do about that is there? I always hold up a carrier bag stuffed with paper towel to the oil filter, so the filter is inside the bag, then undo it, but it still spills onto my chassis somehow!
