TD5 PSI Motorsport tuning box?
Hi
Can anyone give me a heads-up on the pro/cons of fitting a secondhand PSI Motorsport tuning box (part no IPROTD5ECU) to my standard 2004 TD5 90 H/T? It comes with a dedicated Defender wiring loom & will work out at £140 fitted from a local reliable source Rolling Eyes
I appreciate that Gary, Ian/Ada, Big Steve & Chris etc offer a bespoke diagnostic service so wonder it this is worth the money as a generic ECU override unit...
TIA Very Happy

A tuning box simply acts as a jumper..... it extends the injection pulse width and puts fuel in at the wrong point of the stroke which can lead to problems including bore wash.. Some more modern units are a fraction more intelligent - but not much. You might make a fraction more power, but not in an efficient manor.

They are, and always will be a bodge method of tuning in my opinion.

And they are the reason I have a td5 at the moment with FUBAR'D injectors..... Admittedly the customer had two units plugged and turned to max.

Thx for the informed response Ian/Ada; it's what I anticipated really Big Cry I guess my hard earned would be better invested in some bespoke fettling rather than a plug-in bodge.

I use to have a tuning box on mine until Ian tuned it, when he took the box apart it just had a resistor in it, not a lot more. The difference with a remap is the truck is a lot more drivable rather than being just a peak of power. Save your cash and have it done properly.
