I would speak to Opie oils and see what's suggested. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I put Fuchs Titan sintofluid sae 75w 80 in my r380. It made a big difference as it was crunching a lot between 1st and 2nd. This problem was solved by changing the oil and the whole box was smoother. I don't know how old the old oil was though so standard land rover stuff may well have done the trick.

I used this in my Puma 2.4
http://www.micksgarage.com/proddetails.asp...p;pk=EA876
Main gearbox 2.2 litres at service oil change or 2.4 litres dry fill at factory.
Transferbox 1.6 litres.

If the gearbox is empty then 2.4 litres. Seems filling to the bung is not recommended on the gearbox on the Puma as one does on older Land Rover gearboxes. Seems it (filling until it runs out the bung) can lead to overheating on the Pumas. Might be something to do with the slight angle the gearbox sits at. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
