Where to find a Steering Guard for Defender 07-
Hi
Anybody that can give me a recommendation of wich Steering Guard i should go for and where to find it?
Steel or Alloy?
I want a Bolt on application and i think it would be good to have ventilation holes?
I have a Defender 110 StationWagon from 2007

What do you guys have on your rigs?

you normally find them between the chassis rails at the front of the vehicle....

not helping......

my thoughts - ditch the holes its a guard for a purpose, why risk logs, corners of stones, muck etc being pushed through.

I have only ever fitted Southdown kit to my vehicles, my Puma has one Daves steering, front axle and detachable towing kits on it plus a rear diff guard still waiting to be fitted.

they cost more than some but you only need to buy once.

Holes vs no holes. As with most aftermarket kit, people'll tell you different things (based on what they bought Wink ).

Holes = drainage (supposedly) and lighter weight (like that really matters). If you're being pulled backwards out of a bog, a guard with no holes will act as an effective ground anchor. Holes will help VERY slightly (but not much). A lot of people avoid both and fit Dan guards over the linkage for that reason.

No holes will allow you to 'skid' over items with slightly less friction.

Unless you're doing serious challenge work (which I guess you're not) then I doubt there's any substantial difference in reality. Holes are slightly easier to jet wash Very Happy

No real difference between alloy and steel. Alloy is generally lighter but you need a thicker guard so benefit is marginal.

The main advice I'd give is get one with front recovery points built in and decide now whether you're going to fit a winch or not.
For what it's worth, I have an alloy one with holes and front recovery points and no winch.

Thanks, and you're right i will not do any heavy offroading (been there done that), but i wan't some protection just in case, and of course just for the look Very Happy Very Happy

I found that Allmakes and Britparts Steering Guards is available in Sweden so maybe i will shoose one of those (but the price is twice as to buy it self from UK). I think the Allmakes looks better because it has more holes

A note on them and (at least) genuine winch bumpers - the advice on that is true - i didnt want/couldnt have recovery eyes because my winch bumper has the front recovery points on it.

Not the tollerance might have allowed them to pass but both bumper and guard holes would have been obscured. Mike

I used a genuine LR solid alloy steering guard, with the inbuilt reinforcing bar behind it, non recovery eye type, as they would foul the in built points on the winch bumper

Southdown front axle guard, and OEC rear diff guard,,, so far so good,, All bar the rear diff, came off previous Defenders inc TD5 California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1
