Safety Devices front hoop, purchase and installaiton?
http://www.safetydevices.com/expedition/pr...esent/627/

Hi all,
The Chevy Rover project moves on a notch and I am looking to add a front roll cage/hoop - see link for type
a, does this give any support/protection? (obviously not a proper cage, but could where it comes into the roof then run down the inside to the chassis but without intruding?)
b, where is best to purchase and have fitted? I am based in West Sussex near Horsham

Thanks
Nick

No, the one you link is the style bar only. For protection you need the one that bolts to bulkhead mount and has an inner hoop that is bolted to the chassis and rear of front hoop.

Cheers

The one you have picked could provide added protection- but not full protection.

The A pillar is the biggest weakness on the Defender when rolling over- the B pillar tends to survive. From the description the hoop has chassis mounts at the front, and 'Reinforcing' plate at the top of the B-pillar which then SHOULD help protect/ strengthen the A-pillar.

BUT

They don't show the reinforcing plate so I would want to see that before deciding if it actually forms any link to the pillar.

If you want real roll over protection then you will be looking at something like this (Ref No. L138/7):

The internal hoop really doesn't take up any space at all.

Fitting: Do it yourself! If going for just the front hoop, all you do is:
A. Bolt the cage together.
B. Put masking tape on the truck.
C. Offer the cage up to the vehicle.
D. Mark the holes.
E. Drill the holes out (and cut the squares).
F. Bolt it all together.

If you can put an IKEA bed/ bookshelf together you can fit a basic roll bar/ hoop Thumbs Up ............. MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE Wink

:

The plates are just fixing plates and nothing more, so don't add any protection.

VERY minimal protection then..... Prety much the same as fitting a roof rack..... oh well.

The one shown above is the 50th Anniversary type.

I have the front end of L183 or 'Camel Trophy' type surplus to requirements. £150

http://www.safetydevices.com/expedition/pr...esent/656/

It has bars which go onto the top of the roof and onto the bulkhead and chassis. The appropriate internal 'B' post hoop would need to be purchased seperately.

I do love that camel cage. In hindsight I wish I had got one of those on the 110 when I built it.

Ah well, next time. (project 110-puma no doubt Laughing )
