A few lanes in the Peaks today
Had to go up to Matlock today, so thought we'd do a few lanes on the way up. They were mainly simple lanes, but one was very narrow and have picked up a few branch scuffs.

Rolling with laughter Yeah she was glad to get to the bottom of that lane. It was very narrow. We did have to squeeze past a tree with it up against the awning. Craig Rogers

Looks good, been good weather too, how do you know where the lanes are? Or have been down them before? I need to get out and find some one day as I've never really been on any

The weather is deceptive, I've been out again today and some lanes (Chaple Gate) are still blocked with snow drifts.

However, we walked some other lanes and they were fine, just very windy and wet in parts of the Peaks today.

If you want to find lanes, join a local Land Rover club, or I'd be happy to take you on a few. You can also join GLASS and you'll get access to their list of Rights of Way on a website called Trailwise. Its not perfect, but its probably the best resource we have (unless anyone knows better..?)

The trick is to make sure the lanes you drive are legal - they need to be public roads, unless you have permission from a land owner. GLASS or your local club will be able to help determine the legal status of lanes. Or even go to the local council and ask them.

Cheers

Simon

It's a difficult one with finding and driving.

Finding them is easy if you know how to read an OS map (1:50K or 1:25K), but it doesn't mean that they still have rights of way.

All of the ones today (apart from one), I've never been on. I plotted them on an OS map (I have a Satmap and use their Xpedition website) and with the help of Google Maps, took a rough look at what they are like along with a look at any entrance/exits on road sections to at least have a look at them.

Then there's driving them. If they look in anyway that I shouldn't be there, I wouldn't go down one. All of todays lanes are just rough roads to be honest (except the one thin one) so don't have the attention like some of the famous well known lanes, in fact, some of them even have Street View on Google Maps, how the Google car got down the one showing the wheel articulation, I'll never know.

Usually, I always post on here to for advice on a particular lane, as most of them will have someone who knows it.

It's always good to try and check the stand point of them and as mentioned GLASS will be able to help. Craig Rogers
