Kahn Alloys
I was thinking about getting some 18 inch kahn alloys.

Does anyone know anything about them?

Will it throw the speedo out?

When it stats not for off-road use does this mean their not made to the correct weight loading?

Morning Rob,

Changing the rolling radius of the wheels and tyres will affect the speedo. I had the same conundrum when considering wheel/tyre replacement and decided to go an inch smaller on the wheel diameter and bigger boots to maintain original rolling radius.
Not sure if the link still works but if it does have a play and it will calculate how far the speedo may/or may not be out when and if you swap.

Nice one.

I've run that test and I would be -0.05 out and the revs would be 3rpm higher.

I would guess this would not make a great deal of difference!

Not sure what to do, I have a lot of interest in my svx alloys and I really hate how the defender drives on the continental tyres. So wouldn't cost me a great deal to upgrade.

Rob, what is exactly wrong with the Contis? I thought if you are mainly road driving, they were actually amongst the best available now. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

They don't grip in the wet as well as my old bfg KM2 tyres. Once you put a trailer on the back forget going into fields. They slip about on the snow were bfg just cruise through.

They are a compromise tyre they are alright but I would like something better as I drive alot of miles on all conditions. They are a massive improvement on the general grabbers land rover used to fit which are the worst tyre in the world.

I am just very fussy about tyres and don't mind spending the money on them. It's nice to be able to push the 90 without the tyres letting you down. Also being able to stop quickly, especially when towing and I feel tyres have a major part to play.

Back in the days of 300tdi land rover fitted bfg all terrains which I am a big fan of.

I feel having 18 inch wheels gives you less side wall so would expect less tyre movement.

Sorry that's my ten pence worth of tyre talk sorry to bore everyone.

Yeah they are dear but my current wheels and tyres could fetch a few quid so change over might not be too bad.

Going to ask insurance what the difference would be.

How do you get on with yours off-road??

Yeah saw your pictures, that's what prompted me to look further into it. Was thinking about getting 110 but going keep 90 and do a few mods that would make it more fun.
