wasn't expecting to pay more than £50 and two loafs of bread
I've got some accomodate sorted for the last week in May in Venice (well near). I need to be back latest Saturday night of 1st June (I'm entered into a run on the Sunday so can't let my running partner down). children will be in school the week proceeding this - I'm not against taking them out of school for a day perhaps even 2, but ideally was thinking of leaving on the Thursday (pm) 23rd May. any how the problem is - HOW FLAMING EXPENSIVE are flights these days ![]() the obvious choice (to me at least) is to drive. problem is everyone (incl HWMBO) is saying its too far to go for a week (or so)......and there's the cost. even with the economy I get (30+mpg) its gonna be £600.....the same price as the flaming 'cheap' flights. if we fly can anyone suggest the best airports to use? assuming its one of the closest airports to venice we'll probably get a lift foc but we've not ruled out hiring a car and could therefore pick a not so close airport if there was a financial incentive. thoughts, suggestions AND DONATIONS ![]() |

My wife's paid £185 return Leeds/Bradford-Venice with a further £90ish in various charges, for early in May with Jet2. www.jet2.com
Booked before Christmas though so got a discount. |

It's a 16 hour drive.
I did Geneva in 15 hours when I brought my tomb raider it was a long way. On the way back I had to get a hotel. I reckon you would use about £450 in fuel. Then insurance green card. Then the crossing and finally the toll charges. It all adds up. |

ruddy nora ......when I was a kid..........
who thinks 16 (perhaps 20 at my rate of knots) is a long drive for a week. we would of course look to break this up with a few hours sleep on the ferry ![]() and possibly a sleep over on either the way there or back in a week little tent ? am I being mad? and perhaps I've been spoilt with flights to the US, Dubia & Canada for sub £100. what was supposed to be a cheap holiday is looking anything but especially if I don't get to take mr truck with me (although I have to ask myself would it get there and back ![]() |

If you fly and hire a car in Italy, in my experience, one-way or another, they always end up costing about £400 a week.
Why not consider hiring a car in the UK (40-50mpg) and driving over ? |
