Probably lots of money. I do wonder how much actually gets there. Given the stories I have heard from ex-merchant navy chaps who have done runs out to Africa, I do wonder.
I'd rather give to the RNLI/Cancer Research 1999 Defender TD5 110

I have taken a different stance on the charity giving recently. I came across an organisation called http://www.lendwithcare.org/ This works differently. It's a micro-finance company. Basically someone in a third world country applies for a loan, generally a relatively small amount, they then pay it back over a year or so. I donated 100 quid a couple of years ago and I get a repayment every month, as soon as I get up to £15 I lend it to someone else. If I ever needed the money back I could just not reinvest it.
It strikes me as a damn fine way of making sure my money doesn't shore up some corrupt official or is not squandered on some lunatic project. It goes to someone who is going to work hard to pay it back.

Now that is a good idea Razz Thumbs Up

We have bought gift card donations for cattle, fishing boxes etc as Christmas presents for our kids in previous years but investment and the feeling you're doing something continuous is much better. After 25 years of Comic relief (and another 75+ million) I also can't help feeling the money is just dropping into a bottomless pit.

I'll suggest "lendwithcare" to SWMBO when she wakes up - never underestimate how long primary school teachers can sleep at the weekend Laughing

Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
