Reversing sensor kits
Has anyone got/had a reversing sensor on a Defender?

If so what make & did you fit it, or have it fitted yourself?

Strikes me as being useful when rear vision is blocked by a spare wheel, especially, & for warning of close low objects in blind spots. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

I tried 3 different ones (first was returned) - the third one was Waeco (decent make and not cheap). They should be simple but none of them ever worked properly - kept randomly beeping when it was cold/hot/rainy and when the Waeco finally just beeeeeeeped I ripped the whole lot out. The sensors were mounted into the NAS bumper - firstly into the tube and secondly into the 2 plastic stoppers.

Since the bumper/spare wheel arrangement isn't ideal, I never really got a clear idea of distance. The whole thing just drove me mental...but hey, don't let me dissuade you Whistle

I think the less expensive aftermarket systems aren't that good - there's probably a reason why this option, done properly, on a new car can get towards 4 figures... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Hi Bigwheels. I've had the same Reversing sensor system forthe past 2 1/2 years. works well, easily fitted but not cheap. Although having said that I found mine on eBay for £25.
This is the company. They are made for commercial vehicles.

ive had reverse sensors on many vehicles, but the best are those camera systems where you can actually see whats going on.

id look into a reverse camera system. it wont be anymore expensive and will likely be easier to fit.

I've been so p*ssed off with the beeper-failures I'd not really thought of that for a while Confused
More precise + it can't really go wrong, can it?
Someone on here fitted one where the rear washer jet is (never use mine).
I feel another project coming on...

Fitted a wireless camera kit from Maplins to my Defender, about £70-ish and works day and night. Gets rid of that dreaded blind spot and gives peace of mind in supermarket carparks that you are not about to reverse over a toddler.
Fitted the camera just over the rear door. It's a wide enough angle lens to give vision from straight out rearwards, out to the sides and down to the ground.

It was a cheap E-bay special, I got the original from a mate who had his car written off (Celica GT4S) and gave it to me. It was brilliant, so I got another for this Land Rover. Not expensive but very effective for the price.
