Cold weather + spotlights!
Hi everyone, came out early this morning, temp about -8. Started up ok, everything working fine but no spotlights! All other lights , heated screen/seats fine! Been driving for about 30 mins and just tried spot lights again and worked fine! The spotlights are wired into the main beam, this was working fine all along ! I'm away now for couple days so will look at it on Tuesday. Does anyone have any likely causes ? Any help appreciated.

If the relay was a bit damp and froze up possibly? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

As above, sticky relay. Easy to check, and nothing major.

I concurr Id look at the relay first, if it happens again check to see if it clicks when you switch the lights on (easy if its in the seat box because you can hear click when you switch the lights on and off ).

(do all this at the relay).
If its clicking then check for 12v on the 12v supply wire from the battery (on the fused wire) this is the main supply to the lights that the relay is switching (could be a dodgy connection on the battery or fuse ) if thats ok check for 12v on the output wire from the relay to the lights (could be dodgy contacts on the relay) itself.

If its not clicking check for 12v across the the signal wire to the relay from the light switch and negative at the relay . If you have an input signal and negative to the relay then its looking like its sticking.

You dont rush out to buy a new one disconnect it and put it on a bit of clean rag on a radiator in the house for a few hours to dry it out and then try it again. (dont use wd40 on it it might fix it for a week or so but it dries out and it will stick again)

if like me you cant be arsed with getting the test meter out just buy a new relay and fit it (they are pretty cheap) and if that dosnt fix the problem, fault find as above. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy
