I use Poorboys stuff.......but this is only because I use to use it on my sports car before I got converted to the ways fo the Defender.

Super Slick and Suds Shampoo....
Nattys Pastes Wax
and EX-P sealant......

Although havent washed my defender since the end of shooting season....so needs a good weekends work of cleaning.

Puma is 4.5 years old and 60k km..... NEVER, NOT EVEN ONCE! handwashed it, but weekly or at least semi-weekly use the local carwash, and then the most basic program, just including undercarriage jetspray. (No prewash foam, liquid wax and other useless crap

) When home, give it a quick 2 minute run around to fully dry it with a towel. Only thing I pay special attention to is to treat all rubbers (windows, doors, sunroof, also soft A-bar) with a silicon spray twice per year plus use occasionally a non glossy tire shine.
The truck looks no different than on day 1 as you can see from this recent picture

Looking for shampoo & wax the whole lot really. Preferably something that leaves a wax shine too and wont loose it's shine after a day or two.

Steve, I highly recommend the Meguires range.... If you use the products in 'layer form', the results are amazing. Takes time but the paint reflective depth is superb and it lasts ages. I also use their quick detailing sprays, as once you've waxed the car it should last six weeks, so the detailing sprays are a great boost In between this time. Hope this helps. Nath

Yep, I agree. I purchased the ultimate wash and wax in the end. Very pleased. Only thing is two days later I got it filthy again.

Is this a good idea? mine could do with a wash but don't have time for a full monty at the moment.

In a word no. Unless you want your bumper end caps pulled off (If you have any) and scratches and scrapes all over. I would never recommend it. If your time poor just leave it until you have a little spare time and even then just to have a basic clean up wouldn't take much more than an hour.

My local car wash is for max 2.60m height, so no problem. Now must admit that the car washes here in Geneva generally are of the very soft gentle type. I am kind of lucky that where I live the local car wash is maintained really up to snuff.... Soft sponge type brushes (not the nylon stub variety), weekly maintenance, etc. and zero scratches, zero damage to any parts. My picture above says enough I think

I do understand however that this is not the case everywhere, in Belgium for instance the car washes are very sophisticated but also very aggressive. There the water jets are so hard, that no Defender would go through them without coming out with 2 inches of water on the floor.

In nearby France I have seen the most astonishing sh*t equipment, scratches are a guarantee there. At one carwash of a nearby French supermarket I have seen myself in one month time two

events that one of their rotary brushes which does the roof, just dropped down and crashed the car roof! And I assure you those things weigh a ton, the car was total loss.

A first hand comment,.... there is a world of difference between France and Switzerland

Yes, they are. Typically Swiss. They are specially equipped so that if you have a 4x4 with a spare wheel on the rear like our Defenders, you can push a button to make sure that the moving dryers, etc. take that into account.

) auto glym is meant to be good.... and Turtle Wax.

thats going to upset the paint adhesion, when the paint is dull just repaint, 2 brushes a couple of rollers and its as god as new...

Plain high pressure jetwash underneath to get the mud off, then hand wash with warm water and washing up liquid, followed by leather off. Polish every now and then if I have the time. Ideally pick a day when it's going to rain. The rainwater is naturally very soft and provides a great post-rinse apparently! 2012 Defender Utility Wagon

I'm with you hand wash with warm water and washing up liquid hen a rinse down with hose pipe comes up like new!
