The factory ones on my Ninety XS have rusted right through on one side.
Anyone got a 'take-off'?

So, in theory, since these replace the sills, I can fit them and keep my LR ones lower down. Double the fun - I wonder what that would look like Whistle Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Appearance notwithstanding, keeping the Tomb Raider OE sliders & fitting the higher ones makes a space where you could catch your foot in.

However a slider without tree bars, as made by Terrafirma (say) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/90-Rocksliders-R...256f02e8e2 would allow both to be fitted, look cool & be safer. Cool Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Keith, I think you will find that Extreme 4 x 4 do not make rock and Tree Sliders. There again I think I know who supplies them. Whistle

Have had a quick look at the links, one of them is cheaper then other suppliers in the market place as they are NOT VAT registered.

Also I notice that some of these parts are zinc plated as compared to other makes which are galvanised

Zinc plating or electro plating to put it crudely is a cheaper way of applying a thin coat of zinc to a steel product. Typically zinc plating provides a smooth shiney surface with typically a coating thickness of about 10 microns.

Hot dipped galvanisation has a less attractive appearance then zinc plating as it tends to be duller, orange peel effect and may show signs of 'snots' This coating method is more expensive to apply and gives a coat of about 100 microns thickness compared to 10 microns for zinc plating.

I can not remember exactly the salt water test figures for galv against zinc plating but galv is vastly superior to zinc plating.

Is galvanisation superior to zinc plating? Well think of BZP bolts (Bright Zinc Plated) how quickly do they rust o your vehicle?

Quote:

Zinc plated coatings are not suitable for exterior exposure applications. Zinc plated bolts and hardware fittings such as gate hinges will not provide adequate protection from corrosion, and will rarely last more than 12 months in exterior exposures in most urban coastal environments.

Zinc plated products have an attractive appearance when new as the zinc coating is bright and smooth, where a hot dip galvanized coating has a duller and less smooth surface. There is typically about 10 times as much zinc applied to small parts in the hot dip galvanizing process than is the case with zinc plating. A bright, shiny smooth zinc finish on builders hardware (bolts, nuts, hinges, gate latches, post shoes) indicates a plated coating that will not provide adequate corrosion resistance and will rarely provide more than 12 months protection in most of the coastal population centres.

Sometimes things are cheaper from one manufacturer then another for very good reasons. Not VAT registered, using cheaper manufacturing processes etc.

As long as you make an informed choice and understand the difference between products/manufacturers etc then it is fine.Thumbs Up
