Mantec Wheel Carrier + Larger Wheels & Tyres
Hi All,

I've searched here and google for the answer to this, but have failed Big Cry - hope someone can assist me!

I've a late 2002 90 CSW and recently upgraded the alloys and tyres to 18x8 Boost replicas, running 285x60x18 Cooper Zeons. I'm pleased as punch with the choices, but now need a wheel carrier on the rear to accommodate the larger wheel and tyre size/weight.

Now I really want the Mantec one, but am unsure if it can accommodate a wheel that is larger than the standard LR 16x7 Boost style wheels and tyre sizings?

The offset is the same on the new larger wheels, but I don't fancy placing an order for a Mantec to then have to return it.

So do any of you Gentlemen run larger alloys and tyres with a Mantec wheel carrier?

Thanks in advance! Thumbs Up Nath

I THINK mine is a Mantec one (on there when I bought it and no stickers or markings that I've noticed) and I have an 18inch silverline alloy on mine with a 285 tyre. I don't have any issues with it.

Not a massive help as not sure what mine is sorry. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

Ok,

285/65r18 converted into imperial is: 32.5 x 11

235/85/16 converted into imperial is: 31.7 x 9.3

That means your tire size is less than 1/2 an inch bigger. and less than 1 inch wider (remember only one side of the tire counts).

So....... Yes, it will fit VERY easily..... if I have made a calculation error it is because I have been awake for far too long Razz

Thor.... basically it is the two different ways of measuring tire sizes.

So for your tires you can call it either:

Metric (285/65r18):

285 is the width of the tread in mm
65 is the aspect of the side-wall to the width- so 65% of 285mm
18 is the wheel size in inches.

Imperial (32.5x11r18)

32.5 is the diameter of the outer edge of the tire in inches (basically the overall height of the tire).
11 is the width of the tread in inches.
18 is the wheel size in inches.

I always find it easier to convert into imperial because it actualy give you real figures that matter- overall diameter and width rather than aspect raios etc.

Ah ok. I'm kind of with you, i think cheers.

Seriously thinking about swapping the Silverlines anyway as inreally like the ZUs or at least getting the silverlines powder coated or something. Not sure yet. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

Just remember to order the spacer kit as well for the carrier, the one i fitted a few weeks ago didnt come with any spacers and there was no chance a standard boost would fit on, i rang mantec and they told me about the spacers so i just made some out of stainless bar so i wouldnt have any rust problems in the future.

Hi Pete,

So is this 'spacer kit' literally a sleeve to push the wheel out further?

Where abouts does it fit in on the carrier too?

Thanks for the tip!

Thats just the spacer, you then fit the big thin nut that was on your original land rover wheel carrier.

I remember this problem. When my friend fitted one he just got 3 normal LR steel wheel nuts and put them on- spaced it out just right for 255/85s on deep dish alloys.
