Pilot Bearing isues.
Hello all, I have recently changed my clutch slave and clutch. While I was in there I was told it would be a good idea to change the Pilot Bearing.
The Bearing was a complete pain to get out! Anyway...it came out and the new one went in and all went back together. I drove around 150+ miles after the job and then started to hear a tapping noise coming from the bellhousing under load. Today the noise got more consistent. Now I can hear the noise just by revving the engine. If I depress the clutch and then rev the engine, it wont rev over 3000rpm.
I think the pilot bearing may have dropped a needle when refitting the box. Does anyone think this is possible?
Cheers.

Can't help with the tapping noise I'm afraid, but in sure someone else will be able to.

The 3000rpm rev limit is normal though. If you rev it in neutral with no clutch it'll rev as normal.

Thanks for the reply.

Had it all apart again today to see if anything was amiss. All was fine. Put it back together, went for a test drive and and engine started knocking really badly! Sounds as if it has dropped a valve or worse! Feel pretty deflated right now. Investigation starts tomorrow.

Cheers

Loose injectors!! Inj 3/4 had worked loose some how. I've never been anywhere near them.
It was making a right old racket! Sounded as if it was about to let go.

Tightened them down and all is good.

Might be worth checking yours peeps!

Cheers

Caterham,

Its not something I'd ever heard of before now.

Since, I have been told it can damage your head if it goes undetected for some time. I think the fuel/Air/Gas trying to force its way past the loose injector can cause a ''track/groove'' in the head to occur. This would be a pain to repair!

Cheers.
