Would you run your defender without a spare tyre
As above most new cars come without spare now plus the spare on a defender is vulnerable to thieves maybe space saver tyre , run flat tyres/inserts ,most of my journeys are local and we have 2car s so getting stranded is not a problem thoughts please cheers CHris

When did you last get a flat?

I wouldnt run one without but the last time I had a flat was a flint related greenlaning issue so could potentially risk it on road. Confused

In reality spare wheel thefts from Defenders arent as common as Sport & Disco, if you are concerned I would personally put a bike chain or similar round it and a spare wheel cover over that.

More seriously, whilst most of your journeys are local and it may not be a particular hassle if you get a puncture close to home. However will you remember to put it on if your other car is not available/you go on a long journey etc?

I had 2 in the Discovery2 in 187000 miles. I was delighted that the spare was easily-accessible on the rear door (rather than groping under the vehicle, or having to remove everything from the boot), and that the jack and brace were well-positioned.

One was an off-road damage, and one was a nail. The off-road damage was to the sidewall, so a tyre-weld spray would have been useless... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

NO!

Had a SIIA for 5 years(40000km), no flats...
Had a 90 Td5 for 10 years (150000km) 1 flat, at my door!
Have the 110 for 2 1/2 years (37000km), no flats....so far!

But definetly wouldn't run without one! Regards

Oh yes, it's a good idea from the manufacturers point of view. But a bad idea from the point of view of the poor Censored stuck on the side of the M1 in the p***ing rain waiting for the AA!

Then again a lot of people these days call them out to change a tyre anyway, which is just pathetic. If you can't change a wheel or a headlight bulb etc. then you shouldn't be driving.

I agree 100%. Let's face it plenty equally could though but it's far easier just to get someone else to do it and not get their hands dirty. Not wanting to sound sexist what so ever but a few women out there probably wouldn't even touch a wheel let alone change it because it's dirty or may break a nail. As I say not every body but some out there are like it. And no doubt some pansy blokes too (You follow my drift) If that's the type and mentality involved then they shouldn't be on the road and I'd imagine 99% of them have 0% interest in any vehicle what so ever other than it's a method of transport from A to B. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

As an Ex-Recovery operator, I know full well I should carry a spare. However, (and I do not wish to curse myself - so touch wood) I am currently running without a spare.

I will have a flat tyre in the morning now.

I always have one.

If i'm out laning on my own for a nice long day (like popping up to mid Walesland) i'll chuck in a second....

nothing like having your day ruined by a flat. or having one flat then thinking for the rest of the day "i've had my one chance... better head home just in case"

I'm not strong enough to lift my spare on and off the back door or to undo / redo the wheel nuts safely. i guess if i had a car with tiny 12 inch wheels it might be different ......

I also have arthritis and carpel tunnel syndrome in my hands, and a shoulder injury. I would call The AA to change a wheel for me.

Also, as a lady I often wear shoes that are not practical for changing wheels in a safe manner.

Talking of safety, for anyone it may be the safest option to call the breakdown company if you have to pull over on a busy road without much of a margin between you and the traffic and / or it is dark on an unlit street.... Just something to think about before willy waving and calling people who do not choose to change their own wheels "pathetic" ........
