Brecon Beacons Road conditions
Does anyone live in/near the Brecon Beacons?

I'm heading up this weekend with a group for some winter climbing, and see that the mountain passes are closed, so was wondering what the road conditions are like on the A-Roads + minor roads (currently trying to decidide whether to take a minibus or an MPV + my Defender)...

Many thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Forecast for the weekend looks like a heat wave - you might get more concerned about flooding Confused 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

I live in the middle of em and it is grim tonight. There will be over a foot by morning plus drifting. Was out climbing on Pen y fan last Sunday and all back roads were passable only with 4x4, or with snow chains/tyres and good ground clearance. The A470 was perfect though. Assuming it stops snowing tomorrow then by WE the A470 will be fine up to Storey Arms. All other routes will be dodgy, even if we have rain and a thaw it will take a while to get rid of the ice and drifts on the back roads.

PS Snow conditions will be poor though you might get some ice over at Torpantau if it don't thaw too much before then...

Much appreciated guys Thumbs Up

I think we're heading up to Penwyllt hut so up the A4067, and then up the steep hill...
Then deciding what people want to do (some will want to go hiking etc).

On the plus side though, I will be bringing the LR up as well, due to other commitments Very Happy

I am in the SWCC and have a mate on FB who lives in one of the cottages at the top of the hill at Penwyllt. I can ask him what the hill is like at the mo. The A4067 will be fine for sure by the weekend.
