Sweden 2004 Defender 110 Td5 SW Belize Green
My Defender does not start...
I am new to this forum and located in Sweden. Bought the car (TD5, 2004) in Belgium and shipped it to Lithuania for some accident repairs and some other jobs like fitting of spot lights etc. The car is now more or less ready for transport to Sweden but it refuses to start. This is what my mechanic writes:

"Sorry for such a late reply, but I encountered with some problems concerning the LR. After I finished installing the spotlights, I couldn‘t start it. At first, I thought that the problem was with the way I connected the wires so I tried to find the possible mistake, but that wasn‘t the case. Then I found out that one of the reasons could be a faulty fuel cut out switch. I cleaned its contacts and put the switch back to its place. Yesterday I put the battery to charge and this morning I tried to start the engine again. The engine started from half turn and worked perfectly. I started and stopped the engine several times, changed filters and oil; I even took a short drive. Everything was working perfectly fine. Then I started the car once again and after a few minutes it suddenly stopped working and I couldn’t start it anymore. The starter is working very well, but the engine shows no sound. After a research on the internet I found a few similar cases and solutions for them. In that regard, tomorrow I will continue dealing with the problem. It can be crank and cam sensor’s fault or it’s plugs bad connected and etc. Hope for the best…"

I have little technical knowledge and know nothing about the Defender so my hope is that some of you guys have ideas what to search for.

Really long shot but do the fob batteries need to be replaced/re sync'd ?

With vehicle unlocked, take battery out of fob and then hold both buttons down for 10 seconds to drain residual power.
Battery back in then press lock four times and unlock once. That will sync the fob back to the ECU.

Hope it is just a simple problem like this.

Since there is no Check engine light on then I will not think about the crank sensor.

Since there is no Block engine light it should no be the key FOB also.

I will go into thinking about the fuel cut sensor or the pump relays, is the pump making too much noise?? if it IS then probably the prefilter in the pump is full of dirt and causing a bit of problems.

Ask him to put a new battery on, a weak one will make more trouble. Augusto

Could be the fuel crash cut off - attached to the bulkhead inside the engine bay. It is designed to cut fuel in the event of an impact, and is reset by pressing the black rubber cap. My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk

My mechanic informed me today that he fixed the problem by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery and then connected it again. He found that advise somewhere on the Internet...

Does that make sense to you guys or do you think the starting problem will return? Anyhow, thank you very much for your advise.
