2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 HCPU Keswick Green

Fitting Rear ARB Locker With TC

Seen as no B

R wants to buy my rear difflocker, I'm thinking about changing it to fit my 90 X-Tec. This is the first Defender i've had with TC and wondered how fitting the Difflocker will affect TC. I have found the TC strange after not being used to it on a Defender seems, to sap alot of power in real muddy conditions. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

I have front and rear ARBs on mine, but Land Rover fitted a switch that turns off the TC when locking the ARB, and you still have ABS.

I'm offshore at the moment but can have a look at what wire they broke into when I get back if you're interested

That would be interesting, cheers, did Land Rover fit the lockers as well or just the switch. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

They did the lot, it was for the previous owner. They even covered them under the 12 month warranty for me.

Nice one

I presume that with the TC enabled and the Rear difflock / centre difflock engaged the TC would only work on the front wheels as these would be the only ones with a cross axle speed difference if spinning. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

In theory yes, as the rears should always be at the same speed.

It works really well with the TC and the cross axle situation shouldn't happen too much with the rear locker in as the lifted rear wheel maintains the speed of the grounded one, allowing you continue driving rather than lurching forward and likewise uphill, as you said the TC kicks in and you continue your ascent.

I'm considering getting the Ashcroft ATB (Automatic Torque Biasing Limited Slip Differential) for the front.

From the website;
"The key features are: -

Fully automatic, needs no driver input
Totally transparent on road, i.e, no unwanted adverse effects
Only comes into play when one wheel looses traction, i.e, a difference in wheel speed
Enhances the traction control as it multiplies the bias load created by the braking effect of the traction control
Needs no special oils
Needs no adjustment as the gears compensate for any wear that takes place
Only with 24 spline side gears
The ATB, our latest addition, is a 'Helical Gear' type LSD with six gear pockets."
