Great write up Steve Thumbs Up

Slight hijack !!

GM

TD5 dash is very easy to remove.

First make sure you have some small containers to put the screws in so you can put them back in the same place.
Also, a small stubby cross head screw driver is useful.

Remove the two end caps, the drivers end is easy as you can see all the screws. Passenger end needs the LR oval removing with a fine screwdriver to reveal one of the screws. Remove both the plastic demister vents on the top (two screws each) and then the large cross head screws in the top - five in total I think.
The top of the dash will now come off, you may need to use a little force.

You can now see the three screws at the top of the centre panel, just loosen them as the centre slides off, and then remove the two bottom screws and the centre comes away from the dash.

If you need to remove the plate from the centre panel that holds the radio in there are spring clips that need releasing with a small screwdriver. The springs run along the top and bottom are do take a bit of time to release.

Leeds - Very true. However this is the reason why I posted the whole thing in one post so in affect any chit chat makes no difference to the post at all as all the info is in one place at the top of the first page exactly where it's needed. Also gives a nice spot to comment on as well. However if the "useful" info was posted into a tech section minus the posts such as this that would be useful yes. Nothing but guides and info and nothing else at all. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

excellent, clear instructions steve. Thumbs Up

i do agree with the old man from the north (aka Leeds) about having a technical library with no chit chat, though. Thumbs Up

Brilliant mate, well done ! Thumbs Up

The only thing I would add to help people is that all the electrical plugs are different so no need to stress over marking them all up

So my suggestion is a technical library but no chit chat such as this.

And I don't know if you've noticed before but from the harness each plug appears in the positions you'd expect in relation to the positioning of it's switch on the dash. That makes it a lot easier. I only marked the electric windows down because I found removing these first allowed the dash to be freed more so gave more room to remove the rest. Also appreciate that XS owners with heated seats and headlight leveling would also have extra plugs / wiring behind there too.

Anvil - Thank-you hope it helped.

And yes agree with that. That is why I posted in one post at the start of the thread available right where needed rather than missing in various pages of chit chat. Equally it's useful to ask / answer questions all the same. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I wish I had seen this two weeks ago, turned down the chance of a pair of Landrover additional driving lamps at very very reasonable price. The instructions stated that it was necessary to remove the centre dash panel, at that point I lost interest

Thanks Steve,

Just fitted my new Kenwood Radio and your guide was invaluable, one thing, I took out the LR radio first and found that after I undid the torx screws I was able to pull the dash forward by putting my hands into the radio aperture and pulling the edges/top no levering required.

You can but it can stress the plastic, and certainly to be avoided if you have a painted dash centre.
