Bet it's actually not that good in the snow Confused Does the benefit come from reduced ground pressure?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Interestingly, did you see LRO the other month where a 110 had these and the track flipped and took the front wing out Embarassed

2 thoughts there...

1. does that not need wheel arches to go out as far as the tracks do as you would with a tyre?
2. when you look through the photo's, why do some of the vehicles still have spare tyres on the vehicles rather than just spare tracks?? Russell

I think they are actually the business in the snow but rubbish on anything else (mud etc)

I guess you don't need to cover the tracks if it is used in it's intended environment and not on the road

Would have lower ground pressure - the weight of the vehicle would be spread-out over a greater surface area.

Seen a few tracked Landrovers but not this design before - if they work then that seems a relatively cheap price for them - at least compared to the costs of some of the others.

Shame seller has not posted any video.

Have seen it and especially noticed that those sticking out tracks had covered the entire car with thick mud layers, including the front window which had real mudballs all over it!
So lesson learned, with the rather poor window washers we have on our Defenders, those tracks just are not a good idea. Unless you install some after market Kärcher high pressure window wash system Whistle You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Can you pass the MOT with these on? are tracks allowed to exceed the extremities of the arches where wheels are not?

Oh and do they have CE marks and can you use them without self levelling headlights and washers Wink

"Cuthbertson Tracked" original, apparently.

I've driven past one of these for years at LIX TOLL garage in Scotland:

More info here: http://www.lr-mad.co.uk/en/cuthbertson-tracked Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Maybe not, but seeing a video of a mattrack equipped vehicle in action will give a good idea of what they look like, regardless.

I'm not particularly aware of any other manufacturers, but they aren't something I've ever had a great need to research either.

Just for the porn value, here's a matttrack equipped vehicle known as 'Goldilocks' that was originally part of Sir Ranulph Fiennes' 'Global Expedition' in 1998:
