Are these flash floods or are they likely to hang about?
I've got a friend driving up to Mendip from Paignton early Friday am and another coming by train and bus from Cheltenham.

Round our way they were caused by the sheer amount of rain that fell onto the already saturated fields. It could not soak in so has just caused massive lakes and horrendous run off onto the roads, rail lines etc.

Lots of of rail routes are still closed and using bus services.

East Devon and Somerset appear to be the worse hit this time.

The big problem will be if the forecast is correct for Thursday/early Friday the same will happen again but it will probably be worse due to the deluge we had last night.

Drove from Leicester to Plymouth today, 245 miles. Floods everywhere, roads, fields rivers overflowing. Got stuck on M5 for a while as 2 lanes were closed due to flooding. Trains from Paddington to Plymouth and Exeter are cancelled. 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

Its was total bedlam around Taunton and Wellington this morning

Had a response job to do, with a patient to go to Musgrove hospital,,

The main Wellington to Taunton road was closed off by plod,, but a bit of sweet talking to them got me through,, never driven that road in daylight with NO traffic on it,, 2 quite large puddles mind Shocked plus a fair few abandoned vehicles California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

This was the situation in SW Scotland on Monday:

Had to go the long way home, closed bridges (due to risk of failure) in town meant a massive diversion. Drove up the main road early the following morning and the scene was incredible. Trees, debris and cars literally scattered along the road, in the fields and in the woods alongside.

And one of the deeper puddles I had to navigate on the way home claimed a headlamp! Madness Sad

Went by here again today and guess what ... It's just the same as the picture above if not a touch worse now. Went down a lot but the last 24hrs have added to it significantly. ____\We|Will|Win/___
