That's a sweeping statement. One person has left the keys in a vehicle. Unless you know of multiple dealers that do this? I don't. |

Gross misconduct resulting in summary dismissal I'd say.

Isn't the point that it was one of ten cars that had just come off a transporter? Seems reasonable to leave keys in for a few minutes whilst you move the cars around. I suspect the thief was ready and waiting and knew the drill - "candy from a baby" as our colonial friends would say

I have been working lately with a major car dealership/main dealers, and their procedures around key management are actually really good and better than you would think. As part of my Job I also asked how many cars they have lost over the past few years and was surprised by the answer. Given the amount of cars they handle both new and used and service cars they have only lost two from direct theft not counting finance fraud which is not their loss as it is other agencies that should check these things.
One of the those was and 'inside Job' and was recovered fairly quickly and the second was stolen off the transporter, by a guy dressed in their uniform!! but they have again changed the way they off load cars. Jason. |

I was at our local Motorpoint a few months back, most of the cars were left unlocked, and a couple of them had the keys left in the ignition. They were 'penned in' with bollards, but one of the cars, a Shogun, could easily have taken a little run up to get over the bollard. I'm sure that must have been a careless employee just leaving the keys in the ignition, but they didn't seem too fussed when I told a staff member.
In the States one of the used car places there had the keys in the cars, but cable tied around the steering column! Like that would stop you from driving off the forecourt! |

I know for a fact that certain car manufacturers store their cars which waiting for transport unlocked with the key in it. Overnight and all. Scaling the real deal.
