Decat - is it worth it?
Hi all.

Recently fitted a larger intercooler and have heard that a decat also does wonders.
Please let me know what you think.

I also heard that some Pumas for some markets don't have cats. Can anyone confirm this?

Thank you

I am also very interested if someone has done a proper comparison.
I read somewhere on here that the Aussies have original LR cat pipes but with no cat inside - I'm trying to decide whether it's worth risking a prison sentence to fit one here in Germany... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Okay - I was overdramatising a bit Rolling Eyes but f*cking about with emission-related parts is taken VERY seriously here, as in: vehicle impounded, heavy fines, points on/losing license etc.
That's why an original LR pipe missing its bits would be the only possibility for me Big Cry Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I de-catted mine and replaced it with stainless steel system made to my spec. It was without doubt the best mod I have done. Not boy racer noisy and does not drone while cruising on the motorway. It now runs much better than it did before both with tune in and tune out, in fact I don’t use the tune now as it never really ran right anyway and the exhaust makes mine feel much better in the way it drives. It has one centre box that is tucked up slightly higher than the original but no rear. For a four pot donk it also sounds quite good (but a long way from a TD5). We travelled to London the other week and we kept to a leisurely 60mph while on the motorways due to the traffic and it returned 32 mpg which is the best I have ever had with my average over the last three years being 24.54mpg (half with roof rack on). Pound for pound it wasn’t cheap but was a lot less than some performance upgrades I have had and this does seem to have had a positive result in the way it drives.

Definitely worth it, one of the best mods I have done. The engine just seems to breath much easier.

Bruce, ROW spec should not have a cat, but the ones in SA do, so go figure.

As soon as the warranty period is over, I'm de-catting and also removing the centre silencer box. Depending on Xmas splurges, I may even have enough left around for an Alive intercooler Thumbs Up --
